And when playing of Legend, earning skill point is a lot harder (a measly 5 per soldier on each mission). But the main problem is that it’s all about vehicles, which are nowhere near as good as three soldiers. Khaos Engine: I haven’t fully explored all the content in this DLC yet, but so far, it has been totally meh. Oh, I forgot about the new enemy type, the Archeron, yep, those suck too. But if you delay starting that DLC until the end game, the reward-mutagen soldiers-will be obsolete at that point. The corruption mechanic sucks-unless you just let the mission that starts it sit in the geoscape forever (until you have a huge stockpile of mutagens). Corrupted Horizons … is late game content that trigger in the early game. But there are new enemies types, the myrmidons, which are just ridiculously unbalanced, unfair, total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, not fun to play against, and the worst enemy ever designed in the history of enemies in video games. But then the Behemoths randomly destroys havens, and that is total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Festering Skies adds the need to manufacture aircraft weapons and modules to the mix. And you have to manufacture all weapons and armour for your soldiers too. Festering Skies: the resource crunch on Legend is tough enough as it is. Umbras, alone, are reason enough to disable this DLC-permanently. Forget everything I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about in the convoluted quest chain. … And then there are Umbras, which just suck. Then wait for the excavation to finish before returning to clean it out. And then return to a site to start an excavation. And then the need to build probes and then fly all over the planet to launch them then wait for them to scan the entire planet. Oh, I forgot about rescue mission at the beginning and the need to build archeology labs. Legacy of the Ancients is what happens when someone plays too much Destiny 2 gets bogged down in a whole bunch of convoluted exotic weapons quest chains, and thinks, “Yeah, let’s do that in Phoenix Point.” Sure, the exotic weapons are sweet an powerful, but we have to do so many ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mission just to get the blueprints then the resources then the resource processing sites then station an aircraft on the resource site. If the Pure appeared much later in a campaign and was more, what’s the word, “balanced”, this DLC could be good. Cool! But you get a new early game enemy-The Pure-that are just brutal to fight with low level squads with basic gear. Blood & Titanium: cybernetic enhancements are expensive armour upgrades that, to be honest, really aren’t with the cost. Nevertheless, it really doesn’t hurt your campaign too much to enable it. When playing on Legend, you really need to get those three missions done in the early game, but they almost always spawn on the other side of the planet, so good luck with that. All great stuff-especially when playing on Legend, where soldiers come without weapons or armour. A super powerful suit of armour, acid spewing assault rifle, and poison spewing machine gone. So the more DLC you enable, the worse the game becomes.įor the best experience: turn them all off. Vehicles still do only have a few shots even with Kaos Engines, but the amount of damage they can do with those is significant, and the vehicles now come with equipment slots which add things like bumper bars for damaging enemies which they could not previously do.Įach DLC downgrades the game in its own way. The big fat creature does a little damage to the world then retreats to the ocean even if you don't harass it, and is defeat-able with a unique ground style combat mission. It's good to try all DLC once and replay with your favorites enabled.Īir combat in Festering Skies is pretty simple but adds a little something like the classic X-Com. When I played without any, I realized just how much content and unique enemies and missions were part of the DLC. I would say the DLC is absolutely worth it. I'll bite anyway since I've played with and without: I have played first with Year One edition DLC, then with no DLC, and am currently playing with latest DLC except Blood & Titanium and Legacy of the Ancients disabled for reasons I won't explain. I'm sure this question has been asked once or twice in the last week.
